Harbortown Concierge was founded by a couple who have experienced
the pleasures and problems of having a second home in Michiana.
Bob Walck is a professional in the media industry who lived in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago with his wife Judy. In 2001 they bought a second home in
Southwest Michigan. Friday evenings, they left Chicago, and in a short time were enjoying their weekend
retreat.
Initially,
the maintenance and management of the Michigan home was a pleasure, but they found that it was significantly eating into their
time for relaxation and activities, the reason they bought a second home. They were able to find local
people to take care of some tasks, snow plowing, lawn mowing etc. but found that too much of their weekends was spent "managing
the house".
When
they needed repairs and decorating done, it involved a lengthy process of finding the right craftsman, and often as not, a
midweek trip to Michigan. Somewhere in their first year of second home residence, the question arose: "Wouldn't
if be great if someone could take care of our house for us?"
Bob and Judy now live in Michigan full
time. They took a need and built it into a successful business. They understand the
needs, distance constraints, and difficulties associated with second home ownership. They know that most second home owners
aren't easily available to handle emergencies, or attend the overseeing of repairs. Second home owners simply want to
enjoy their second home without the hassles. Yet a second home, like a primary home, is a major investment. It is important
to protect this investment and ensure that the property is well maintained and secure.
